National Social Vice President, Jean Krupa, and I will be in Philadelphia during our April 12 dance attending the annual General Council meeting of National USA Dance. I am pleased to share with you that no expense will be incurred by our chapter for our attendance at this important annual meeting.

This is an election year for our chapter. Our elections will be held in November or December. However, it is not too early to be thinking about serving on the board.

The purpose of elections is to allow chapter members the opportunity to volunteer to serve as Board Members and to allow the members to select their chapter's leadership at least every two years.

Per by-laws, the chapter shall be managed by a Board of Directors of not less than seven (7) and not more than nine (9) Voting Members of both USA Dance and the chapter consisting of at least a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and three (3) to five (5) Directors-at-Large. The Board of Directors shall elect the Chapter's officers.

The by-laws have changed in recent years. Currently, the members elect 7 - 9 Directors. The members do not elect the president, vice president, secretary or treasurer. Once the 7 - 9 Directors are elected, they elect the officers (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer). This is an important distinction from the by-laws of a few years ago.

Positions such as Newsletter Editor, Webmaster, Membership Chairman, etc. are not board positions. They could be attached to a board position or could be appointed by the board. But they are not board positions.

You will receive more information regarding elections in the next few months. However, it is not too early to start thinking about running for the board directors of our chapter.

At the National Chapter Conference in Irvine, CA

Newly Elected USA Dance National Officers
From L- R: Shawn Fisher, Senior Vice President; Greg Warner, Corporate Secretary; Jean Krupa, Social Dance Vice President; Yang (pronounced young) Chen, National President; Marta Pascale, Greater Daytona Chapter President; Michael Brocks, Corporate Treasurer

Keep on dancing!
Marta
