I remember when I was younger I always enjoyed gifts that were not only full of thought and meaning but also long lasting. A set of paint brushes and canvases weren't only a nice gift from my grandmother but also beneficial as they helped me learn and grow as an artist. Because of this gift and many others like it, I now have a career in art and design, which I wouldn't trade for anything else in the world. In my eyes, these types of gifts are the ones that mean the most to others, because you are not only thinking of them in the present, but also in the future.

In recent years, ballroom dancing has become a popular activity for all walks of life, from young children to grandparents, as well as those who may have never thought of it as a possibility. Films like Saturday Night Fever and Dirty Dancing have been credited towards getting people moving and shaking, as well as the popular television show, "Dancing with the Stars." People all over the world now have a newfound urge to become dancers and eloquently glide across the dance floor at any number of social functions.

It's safe to say that there will be a time in the near future that you will be attending an event that features some form of dance. I'm sure at one point or another you've probably been part of the group that is sitting on the sidelines, watching the other dancers moving around the dance floor with smiles on their faces. Whether it's a wedding, a cruise, or even a company party, knowing some smooth moves can turn a night of sitting and watching, into an fun, exciting way to socialize and meet new people.

Dancing can not only get you up out of your seat, but also gives you an alternative to spending hours at the gym, as dances like Salsa can burn up to 400 calories per hour. While certain types of dancing like this are beneficial as an intense workout routine, other dances like the Waltz can provide a perfect, low-impact activity to help rehabilitate someone who may have back or hip problems. Dancing is also a benefit for athletes who would like increased strength, flexibility, and balance while not killing themselves with an hour-long session at the gym. For this reason almost anyone can benefit in some way or another from a few nights a week of ballroom dancing.

With more and more studios popping up around the country, there is no reason not to give someone the gift of dance. It is a great way to socialize, get a great workout and it provides a fun hobby for people of all ages.
