He's from England, she's from Finland. When Paul Killick and Hanna Karttunen got together nearly four years ago to compete for England, their long-term goal was to become World Champions. Since then, they've been chasing Brian Watson and Carmen, four time winners. It's been very close a number of times, sometimes only one mark away.

I assume that everyone would be in agreement that dancing is an art. Dance developed for thousands of years as an art form, not as an athletic event. Human beings created dance, as well as the other forms of the arts, as a method of individual self-expression.

Best known for his accomplishments in the International Latin, Hans Galke also won the World Ten-Dance Championship. Having danced with only two partners in his career, he strongly believes that to create successful partnerships and champions couples need to stay together for the long run. Hans, who is from Germany and now lives in England, travels the world coaching world champions and instilling in them the dance qualities that have inspired him and shaped his career.

This 3-time World Professional Standard Champion joked and laughed with us. She was on the creative team of "Burn The Floor" which brought ballroom to a younger and more diverse audience. With Stephen Hillier, Lindsey rose to the top of the ballroom world... and she's still there as one of the leaders in the industry.

As an amateur and professional competitor Oliver Wessel-Therhorn, from Germany, was at the top of his field. Being quite outspoken, Oliver is very clear in his beliefs and principles, the type of dancing he likes to see and how he likes to dance. He is very enthusiastic about the dancing of today and trains many of the world's top ballroom couples.

Not only did they win the World Ten Dance Championship, they've done it four times. They are the Canadian Ten Dance, Standard and Latin Champions, and their entertaining and innovative style make them one of the most popular show couples in North America.

Bill Davies began his competitive dance career in 1964, a different dance era. There were very few competitions in the United States at that time and good coaching was not as readily accessible as it is today. Bill began dancing over 40 years ago but still has the same love and passion as he did back then.

Eugene Katsevman and Maria Manusova are the United States Amateur Latin Champions. This is quite an accomplishment for anyone, but especially at their age. With Eugene at 20 years old and Maria at only 19, they are also one the youngest couples competing in the adult ranks. Dance Notes spoke with them the day after they made the final at The 1999 United States Dance Sport Championships in Miami.
