"Wow, you can really shake your hips. You should be on our dance team!!" That statement, made by a girl at the Eugene Celebration when I was dancing to Satin Love Orchestra, changed my life.
The year was 1998 and I had already taken multiple ballroom dance classes in college, had been treasurer of the college ballroom dance club, and definitely "made my mark" at the local dance bars, but little did I know what was coming down the line. The company I was working for was developing eCommerce for businesses on the Internet and struggling to find its footing. I was stressed out, under paid, and desperate to find something to help me relax.
I joined that dance team and enjoyed several more years dancing fantastic choreographies around town and even competing as an amateur at a regional USA Dance competition in Portland, Oregon.
So when our company changed course from trying to be a "mall" to developing niche industries online, I said, "Why not Ballroom Dance?" and AccessDance.com was born.
That was all almost 12 years ago and honestly I wouldn't change it for the world. I've been able to travel the world for Ballroom Dance, met some of the most interesting people I'd think you could ever come across, and lucky enough to mix "business with pleasure" my entire career. Thank you Ballroom Dance!

Ben's philosophy is that profit without purpose is soulless and meaningless. The soul of Dance Notions is dance as a way for individuals to soar and communities to connect. Ben keeps Dance Notions focused on meaningful work.
Ben began his entrepreneurial activities as a child; he was that kid selling popsicles at his makeshift curbside stand.
He began taking ballroom dance lessons as a college student. Ben's post-college jobs zeroed in on the intersection of technology and dance. He worked for AlphaShop, Dance Notions' predecessor. Ben continued to dance and take on more industry responsibility, eventually becoming a founding president of his local USA Dance chapter.
Ben is an enthusiastic supporter of dance. He believes in connecting dance supply with dance demand, and Dance Notions is the way he gets it done.
If you see Ben at a competition or industry event, please say 'hi'!
